By profession I am a computer programmer. I have a degree in computer science and I have worked professionally as a software developer for many years.
So how does this qualify me for writing about personal development? While I have been working as a software developer professionally, for many, many years I have spent my spare time reading books about self help, personal development, psychology, philosophy, spirituality, and more. I have taken a wide variety of courses in these topics including many as a part time student at university. While I may not have a degree in psychology (maybe one day…) I offer here the bits of wisdom, advice, and information that I have found helpful to me when working through my issues and working on building my life.
Another thing that I have found useful is that my background as a software developer has given me many skills for organizing and structuring complex and abstract information. These skills have helped me not only in better structuring my own life, but in how I organize and present information on this site. In time, I will also provide details about these skills on this website.
My beginnings of personal discovery
When I read my first self help book I was amazed. First, I realized that I wasn’t alone — the problems I was facing were very common. What I had always thought were problems specific to me, problems that I thought existed because there was something wrong with me, were not only common, but solutions for these issues existed. Not only did these solutions exist, but they well understood and people had written books about how to deal with them. I discovered there was a wealth of knowledge in a paperback book that I could buy at my local bookstore or sign out of my local library.
Over the many years since that time, I have become a completely different person. No — I’m still the same person, but I have developed so many new skills that I am now able to enjoy my life without all the fear or anxiety I used to experience. I am able to take advantage of opportunities that enrich my experience, and I am continually learning and growing.
They key that I discovered in all my reading, investigation, and research is that all hurdles in life can be overcome by learning a set of skills. Feeling stuck? You need skills for identifying and removing blocks. Want to improve your health? There is a set of skills to help you lose weight, get in shape, and feel better than you ever have before. Not sure what you want from life? You can find the tools and skills to help you live any life you can imagine.
I feel that the information on these pages is so important that everyone should have access to it. I will be honest with you though — to learn these skills requires motivation, discipline, and patience. Fortunately, you can learn those skills here as well 🙂
I hope that I am able to provide you with valuable information that will affect your life positively, the way so many others have for me.
I wish you great success on your journey!
