About the author

"Describing Jeff Davidson is not an easy undertaking. Some people think of him as a human dynamo who accomplishes more in a day than many people can imagine, while still finding time to stay in shape, spend time with his daughter, and keenly pursue a wide variety of intellectual interests. Some people regard him as the best there is at offering new perspectives and fresh solutions to information overload and the resulting time pressure and life balance problems people face today.
Many people know Jeff as the author of 39 books, (plus 20 revised editions, for a total of 59 books) several of which have been on the curriculum at George Washington University, Duke University, and the University of Connecticut and have been translated into Japanese, Chinese, French, Polish, Czech, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Hebrew, and Italian. Countless others have seen or heard him on a talk show. While some people know him as president of the Carolina Speaker's Association, others recognize him for the long-term contributions he has made to public television. Members of his audiences know him as a high-content, high-energy speaker who delivers compelling, riveting presentations.
Jeff has spoken on 14 cruises and visited 45 countries in the process. [He once was besieged by three wild dogs on the Spanish Island of Minorca, only to be rescued by a man wearing a broad-rimmed hat and carrying a stick!] He has shared the spotlight on magazine covers with Tony Robbins and Dr. Wayne Dyer. His speeches have been featured on seven occasions in Vital Speeches of the Day along with the likes of Dr. Henry Kissinger, Lee Iacocca, George Bush (senior), William Bennett, Michael Eisner, and Alan Greenspan.
As a five-time state winner of the United States Small Business Administration's Media Advocate of the Year Award, Jeff has published more than 3,450 articles on the topics of entrepreneurship, management and marketing effectiveness, and life balance in nearly every type of magazine, journal, and newsletter. He has been featured in 68 of the top 75 newspapers in America, based on circulation, including USA Today, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune.
He has attracted clients such as America Online, NationsBank, Swissotel, IBM, American Express, Westinghouse, and more than 500 other leading organizations and associations."

- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2012This book is good enough if one is just wanting a general guideline re: how to set goals; it gives you details such as definition, types of goals, examples of each category and some notes on how to implement each goal. Bookwise - 3 stars (cause I expected more from it); For the seller: 4 stars - the book arrived earlier than expected, so that was a great service; would recommend this seller. Thanks for the great service! Keep it up!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2002This book is well worth the price but more than that it is well worth the time it takes to read it. My time is very valuable to me. I don't like to read a book and discover that I already know three-quarters of the contents. The material in this book is fresh and potent. It appears as if the author undertook a lot of original research. Rather than rehash tired old clichés about setting goals and rather than sighting frequently used antidotes he went down a new path, offering considerably new material that, from my perspective is right on target.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2003What I liked most about this book wasn't just the practical tips on how to move closer to your goals but also the motivation for you to pick and set goals in your life. If you are like me and want to be going somewhere, but don't know where, this book can help you get started.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2013This book was published in 1998 and is totally superannuated. I wonder how many people set down their goals five years ago, 10 years ago and have realized the??? One of the examples the author uses is the former USSR's five year plan. He doesn't go on to say it never realized any of them. That's just one example of much bad advice in this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2002I'll be honest. I liked this book enough to read it twice. I enjoyed the way Davidson tackles not only the subject of goal-setting, but also the different areas of life people would most want to improve.
Sure, Davidson makes it clear that goal-setting is a process that must be quantified and timed, but how does one really go about setting goals? Davidson's answers are ingenious: from contracting yourself to enlisting others to monitor your process to conducting self-assessments.
I am shocked to say that an Idiot's Guide was so helpful in making me a better planner. If you are ready to make your financial, social, family, even spiritual life better, then you should really give this book a try.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2000Amazon CustomerI gave this book a reluctant two stars because depending on your purpose some of the information in this book (very little)could be useful. As a student of self improvement books for 7 or 8 years this is not one of the best I've read.In fact Jeff Davidsons book worries me that it might give the wrong impression on those first time readers that is really in need of self improvement. In a nutshell; not for beginners, buyer beware, I feel that I'm the idiot who got taken out of my money.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2003I recommend this book highly if for no other reason that the writing style is so effective that you want to keep reading. I have encountered books on goal setting that were kind of laborious to get through. This one is very instructive, but at the same time fun. The chapters are each short enough so that you can get through each one in eight or ten minutes. Each
concludes with some summarizing tips and I really felt motivated to start the next chapter.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2000Among the many books I have encountered on setting goals and reaching goals this one has to be the best. It uncovers every stone on the way to reaching your goals including obstacles and barriers, the power of affiliation, contracting with yourself and even setting life time goals. Instead of covering the tired old trail of you too can be all that you want to be, this humorous, chatty, sometimes irreverent book gets to the heart and soul of what it takes to set and reach a goal. That alone is a remarkable achievement. It also exposes many of the myths of goals setting too often propagated as truths by other authors and other books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reaching your goals
Another fantastic book on setting your goals, however the book is a bit long. however this is my only criticism!!! Its divided into chapters and the author is a noted consultant, speaker and entrepreneur and coach!!! i would read it,study it it and write the goals down!!!its not rocket science just follow the system!!!
