Review
While Rod Evans's book will be valuable to introductory students in numerous disciplines, it will be particularly valuable as a model for inventing one's own mnemonics. -- Joel Wapnick, 1999 World Scrabble Champion, 1998 Canadian National Scrabble Champion, 1983 U.S. National Scrabble Champion
Wow! I have never found learning so easy and fascinating. I believe this volume will be invaluable to any student who is interested in taking considerably less time to study, fascinating to trivia buffs, and engrossing to the lay public who might never expect to encounter in one book the nuts and bolts of so many different walks of life. This is a keeper. -- Joe Edley, 3-Time American National Scrabble Champion (1980, 1992, 2000)

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2007I bought this book for my twelve year old son, but also found that it is helpful for me. On page 51 I found a mnemonic device to help me remember the geological time scale, information that is essential for my Historic Geology class.
My son told me that if you remember the word "HOMES" you'll remember the five Great Lakes, Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior. This is in the book. I'm in my mid-forties, and all the years I went to school I never realized something so simple can be so helpful.
There are other mneomic devices in this book that will surely help anyone. For example if you can't remember where to place eating utensils when you set the table, there is this: left has four letters and so does fork. Right has five letter and so does spoon and knife.
This book is helpful for anyone, child or adult who needs help in remembering a process to accomplish a task. This is a book worth buying.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2014I had originally gotten this for our daughters, but I have to admit I have been reading it more frequently and enjoying it myself. I wish that this had been on my bookshelf when I was in school, it would have saved me so much time in trying to find ways to memorize many groups of things that I had found bland and unmemorable at that time.
Everything is nicely laid out by categories, making it very user-friendly and quick to reference topics of interest. While not every subject in this book may be relevant to everyone, I feel that everyone will find something in this book that is useful to them and help them to feel just a little bit smarter, even if it is done with the help of some creative mnemonics.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2018I love these types of books. Keeps the mind young. Mnemonics has always been my preferred way to remember different subject matter.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2011This is a great little book that presents a wide array of Mnemonic devices. It's amazing how much of what I remember from early elementary is tied to mnemonic devices . . . colors of the rainbow (Roy G. Biv), algebra equations (FOIL & Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally), musical scales (Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge). This small book is a great little reference for hundreds of these devices, from memorizing the parts of speech to the order of the Great Lakes from West to East. If it sounds interesting to you at all, pick it up. It's definitely one that I will look at again and again for many different subjects.
A few of my favorites from the book so far:
When to use fewer vs. less = You can have fewer sewers, but less stress.
Putting Cut Flowers in Water = The harder the stem, the hotter the water. (Don't know why I need to know this, but I'm glad I do now)
How to set the table = fork:four letters:left, spoon/knife:five letters:right
Recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2014Some of the basic mnemonics were not included. Some of the others were not very helpful… Didn't expect so many science terms. Do those guys actually study? … or do they just do rote memorization!
